Nicole Bengco

Nicole Bengco is a counselling intern currently pursuing her master’s degree in counselling psychology. She brings compassion, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s emotional challenges.
Nicole is particularly passionate about working with individuals facing stress, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, and self-confidence challenges, as well as couples and families navigating communication difficulties. Having lived with type 1 diabetes since childhood, Nicole has a personal understanding of chronic illness and is passionate about supporting those managing the emotional impacts of long-term health conditions. She is also dedicated to empowering women in both their personal and professional lives. As a mother of young children, Nicole offers compassionate guidance to parents and mothers navigating the emotional complexities of parenthood.
Nicole has completed the coursework portion of her master’s degree with distinction. She works collaboratively with clients to help them identify and pursue their therapeutic goals, applying evidence-based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), under the supervision of Shalet Rosario, a skilled and experienced Registered Clinical Counsellor & Supervisor.
Her areas of practice include:
· Individual Therapy: Supporting clients experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, self-confidence challenges, navigating a chronic health condition diagnosis, and personal growth.
· Women’s and Mothers’ Support: Supporting women working in male-dominated fields, navigating chronic illness within the family, and balancing identity and motherhood while managing everyday stressors.
· Couples and Family Therapy: Addressing communication challenges between partners, parents teens, or adult children, and supporting families coping with a loved one’s chronic illness.
· Adolescent Well-Being: Supporting teens with stress, anxiety, self-confidence, and navigating friendships and relationships.

Shalet Rosario M. A., M. Ed. RCC
When you meet Shalet, you can expect to be put at ease by her warm and compassionate presence. Her genuine care will allow you to unburden your mind and explore past and present concerns. She will work with you towards finding answers to your problematic issues by drawing on your own strengths. Whether you are a couple or an individual, adult or adolescent, Shalet’s gentle and steady style will ensure that together, with her steady guidance, you are working towards making a lasting difference in your life.
Previously, Shalet completed a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Mumbai, and worked as a counsellor in India for three years before undertaking a second Master’s of Education here in Canada at the University of British Columbia. She has specialized training in trauma, immigration, and life transitions. She has worked extensively with individuals with anxiety, depression, history of sexual abuse and psychological trauma. Shalet is also passionate about working with individuals and families with chronic illness. She is actively involved in research on a peer support model of delivering psychosocial support to adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) living in rural and remote communities of Interior British Columbia.
Shalet’s training includes:

- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Rational Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (RECBT)
Shalet’s Areas of Practice Include:
Individual therapy for: relationship challenges, stress, anxiety and depression, grief and loss, life transitions, coping with a chronic illness, self-esteem and identity, psychological trauma, sexual abuse.
Couples counselling for: improving communication; resolving conflicts; strengthening the connection; improving sex and intimacy; re-establishing trust and closeness after affairs; easing relationship transitions; supporting couple relationships after diagnosis of chronic illness.
Family Counselling for: resolving communication issues between parents and teens or adult children; adult sibling relationships; supporting families in coping with a family member’s diagnosis of chronic illness.
Adolescent therapy for: stress, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, bullying.
